It's the year 2019 in Neo-Tokyo. Neo-Tokyo has risen from the ashes of World War III to become a dangerous megalopolis full of gangs and terrorists. The government is really corrupt and only maintains a token control over the powerful military that are waging a constant war against the Underground rebels and preventing total chaos. Gang leader Kaneda and his friend Tetsuo grew up inseparable until a mysterious boy who is an escaped experimental subject irrevocably changed their lives. Tetsuo, captured by the military, is forced into experiments that make him a powerful psychic. Unfortunately Tetsuo's powers get way out of control and he goes on a rage rampage in Neo-Tokyo! Will Kaneda be able to stop Tetsuo? Will AKIRA help save Neo-Tokyo?
